The difference between Mother of Pearl & Pearls. Both mother of pearl and pearls are made of nacre, mother of pearl refers specifically to the nacre-coated inner-shell of the mollusk. Pearls, on the other hand, are made completely out of nacre. When an irritant gets trapped inside a mollusk, the mollusk, to protect itself, coats this irritant with layers upon layers of nacre until it develops into a pearl three to four years later. At times at C. Krishniah Chetty Group, we make artefacts and use them to inlay as well. Colours are from white to pink, yellow to greys. All equally beautiful in their own ways.
